My first shot at blogging!

I have always wanted to write, but it seems like every time I sit down and try, words just won't flow. I can talk to anyone. Never met a stranger in my life, but to try and put my thoughts down on paper is not particularly easy. I've never blogged. I've done a few forums and I have a Facebook page, but this is virgin territory for me. I'm excited about it. Now to figure out what I want to blog about!

Transformational Ventures in Florida

When you think of transformational ventures you think of northern CA, maybe LA , NYC, research triangle, Boston but Florida? Scripps has a major arm here now. So do other famous research institutes. The major investment banks have branches here. The state has poured money into medical and biotech. The state committed another $250 million last year to help fund new ventures. We are not talking about a new dry cleaners or restaurant (although they are worthy ventures). The state has its eye on transformational ventures, green technology, biotech, medical research and tech and other emerging areas.

Angel Investors and potential Board members abound --- those former CEOs of major companies, fund managers, investment bankers, and successful entrepreneurs play golf for a month, get bored and create business cards saying "semi-retired". Despite "Bernie" the wealth in Palm Beach County of full-year residents and "snowboards" is still enormous. Even Bill Gates is looking for a home on Jupiter Island. I should know --- I am on the Board of the Penn Alumni Club of the Palm Beaches, attend the MIT Enterprise Forum events (I was on the Board of the MITEF in NYC for 7 years), and work with the Wharton Club of South Florida, and attend many conferences.

So what are some of those transformational ventures? Check back as I discuss them. The Harvard Club, Yale Club and Penn Club of the Palm Beaches is about to have an event at Scripps so I will let you know about its new ventures. Can you spot a transformational venture in Florida? Post it and let us see if it gets a thumbs up or down as a good idea and venture you would invest in.

Join me and have some fun as we create a blog of the best and worst transformational venture ideas in Florida.

Hello fellow classmates. Just signed up for the Blogging 101 course and am working my way through the free course. What do I know about blogging? Well, I read blogs daily, sometimes intentional, sometimes not. And I even have a starter blog on blogger.com, but here's the sad story: I never finished the dang first post! (writer's block...) So that's about what I know. Am looking forward to learning more.
Best - Michelle

Making the Leap

Hi all -- I'm relatively new to blogging but certainly not to writing newsletters and articles. Most recently -- and for the last 2 years -- I've been writing a blog for a local tourism association. Many of the articles have been about the group's activities or related news to the specific industry.

I love to travel, to cook, and to write. Now I'd like to "make the leap" to having a blog on my own.

My problem at the moment is deciding how to narrow my interests to one topic that would be of interest to my readers.

Favorite Hobby

It's amazing what an affect something that is done when you are young (to earn a few extra dollars) becomes your favorite pastime and the love of your life. I'm talking about music - playing the guitar to be exact, what a fantastic way to relax, de-stress and just plain enjoy.

This is the kind of hobby you can start out in your tender teenage years and leave in the background for many years (25) then suddenly it gets hold of you again and your hooked.

Because for many reasons guitar playing and to a lesser extent music had been left to hide in the shadows, when I rejuvenated the bug - it has bit even harder than I remember, guitar playing and music have now become a pleasurable pursuit that makes all previous hobbies pale in comparison to the magic of music.

New Blogger

I am new to blogging and would appreciate any help on offer. Hopefully this course will provide the raw data required to get started.
My previous experience with blogging amounts to reading several blogs and liking the freedom that writing blogs seems to allow, I have never attempted to write a blog apart from this (which is quite an effort - I hope it gets easier).
I am really in awe of the people who seemingly at the drop of a hat can write prolifically on many and varied subjects.

Coaching vs. Coach able

As a "newbie" it dawned on me how much 'I don't know what I don't know', yet! Therefore as I begin, I am aware that the only way I can actually learn, absorb and apply these NEW tools and lessons is by reading, doing & following the experts in their step by step process. The teaching some agree, I'm NOT alien to. I do-do a lot (most of which IT likely is) in my professional, training & recreational life, except for there 'I' am usually the teacher or the 'Coach'. I've also realized in this exercise how much 'a-must' it is for ME to be 'coach able' and willing to learn. THAT is a challenge for me & most. I am now A Kohai (translates as "eager student"), a term used frequently in the Dojo or a classroom for Martial Arts where I spend a great deal of time. Thus, my title. My Goal IS, I suppose is; to make a difference in mine & others lives by expressing myself through this Blog and what it is like for me to learn how to write & participate in a maybe a not so NEW but for me, still a kind of abstract Viral Medium which, we ALL are seeing and hearing grow at an eXponential rate! So, please join me as I take my first steps, as a White-Belt if you will, on journey & experience I hope shall take us wonderfully fulfilling, hopefully humorous and maybe even exciting places...

Intro from a Real Army Wife

Oh, don't get me wrong: I am totally addicted to the show, "Army Wives" but it is a bit overly dramatic...but only a little! My name is Jenn and I am a real army wife. I am also a mom to four kids: one that is doing virtual public school, two that I am homeschooling and the youngest is doing a combination of outside preschool and preschool at home! We are also a split family which certainly makes things interesting. I've learned so very much about parenthood, home organization and housekeeping, and homeschooling. I can't wait to start blogging on my own so I can share my tips with other families and learn some new ones, too!

Hello World!

I'm here as part of the Blog Writing Pre-Course and I'm ready to make my mark on the digital world. Look out Seth Godin, I will soon knock you out of the king of the hill spot in the blogasphere. I already have a blog called What Matters but sometimes I run out of things to talk about. I'm hoping this class will inspire me to get back to my blog and be more faithful in using it to focus on what matters in life instead of things that don't.

My First Blog

This is obviously my first attempt at blogging. I am interested in starting a blog about extreme poverty. I feel this subject is under reported by the mainstream media. I hope to write about this topic and receive feedback from individuals who are also concerned about this ongoing crisis. Perhaps we can develop enough interest to actually make a small difference in the lives of so many who are suffering.

Blogging

Some might say it's way too early in the morning for this sort of thing...

dad homeschooler

hey! i'm currently an endangered species, called dadus homus schoolerus. In plain English, that means I am the father of two grade-school aged boys, I work from home, and I home school both boys. Life as an endangered species is interesting, to say the least. The expressions on some folks' faces are priceless when my wife and I inform them we home school. However, when we tell them I (the dad) am the one who is the home schooler, it's over-the-top! Thanks for reading my bloglet.
