Learning about blogging

I am completely new to blogging but after seeing an acquaintances genealogy blog, I've been inspired. Hopefully, I will learn enough in these classes to make this happen.

Mantrini's first blog

My name is Marina, but I's like to use Mantrini, my spiritual yogic name, for blogging. I have been meaning to start a blog for years, but have been having too many doubts about my writing style. But I finally came to a realization that even if nobody will read me, keeping a blog is a very therapeutic process, and at this point of my life, I need a lot of healing. Perhaps my blog will turn into a glorified diary, and if I find my muse, I can eventually start create interesting, well-written content.

Just like with everything in my life, I need a push and A LOT of preparation to get started. So here I am learning how to blog and reading other people's successful blogs, when really, what I need to be doing is setting up a blogger account, and typing away. I am hoping that these baby steps will get me excited and more comfortable with the idea of throwing my words and ideas into blogosphere.

Losing for Good

It is hard to believe that it has been 4 years.

4 years since I lost 70 lbs. 4 years of maintaining my weight.

To look at it this way makes it look easy... but the truth is that everyday, every year has been a learning experience of its own.

Turns out the journey isn't over just because you've reached your goal weight.

In fact, it was only just beginning.

Hoosier Mama

I currently teach in a large urban school district, and I am an Indepentdent Representative for The Gourmet Cupboard. My goal for 2012 is to start a used bookstore, called Rebook It. I plan to raise capital using my Gourmet Cupboard business and by running a tutoring service. I would like to use social media to grow both of these businesses as I plan to continue both as income sources for my bookstore. Additionally, once I start my bookstore I plan to use social media to help in advertisement.

getting my blogger-feet wet

I am in my late fifties and, up to very recently, not too interested in computers beyond emailing, googling for information, saving my photos, and for the most part using applications having to do with my work (bookkeeping). Boring, huh? So then, out of boredom and playing around on the computer, I discovered a whole new world. The first time I heard the word "blog" I thought it was a joke, rather cute, but just one of those techie-isms. My thinking was: why would anyone want to write on the computer? Why would I be remotely interested in what people have to say? sordid secrets of their lives, vague opinions, lots of lingo, not that much substance...however, I didn't even realize that half the time when I was googling for information I was reading people's blogs! When I finally understood that, I could see the potential.
I once wrote a blog, a few months ago. Can't recall what I was on about; I checked back regularly to see if the comments were poring in...they were not...and left it there. Recently I wanted to set up a website. Wanting to hurl headlong into that process, I promptly got confused and overwhelmed with information. Then I recalled what a friend of mine told me - she's an astute website designer herself - and that was to simply start blogging. Well here I am again at the basics. I'm a lot more serious and focused now. -- Patricia

Joining the Community!

Up until now I have been a blog reader....not a blog writer. I have had serious blog envy over some of the amazing blogs I follow! I am finally ready to join these seriously talented people by starting my own blog. I have a passion for home decor and design. I can't wait to share our journey as we continue to evolve our house into a home. I hope to entertain my readers by sharing stories about thrifting to "feather our nest", DIY projects, and happenings in and around our community such as house tours, garden tours, wine tours, and anything else that gets my creative self inspired!! Looking forward to launching my blog, building a following and joining this exceptional community!

Judys Freetime

Freetime for me is time to catch up with loved ones via phone, email texting, organize my space, watch my favorite talk shows, cook, bake, read or exercise. I also like to spend time with my significant other shopping, eating, drinking or working out.

If I have time in between jobs or careers which I have had lately, I like to learn something new. I had a 6 month hiatus and I learned to paint walls and cabinet, bake bread, cinnamon rolls and pizza. I do want to give the painting another try but I am really not very good at this! It is never much fun to do something that one does not do well. The baking on the other hand has been a hit. My baked goods turn out really delicious and bring joy to my loved ones.

I currently am enjoying another hiatus and have decided to learn to blog and video. I am in new territory here so I hope that all goes well. I am very excited and really have added spice into my life by learning new thingshttp://killerhobbies.blogspot.com

Keep Trying

I am going to give my first blog a second try. I am sure that this assignment is so easy but this seems to be the story of my life. I kept accidentally hitting buttons which took me away from the page that I was on and then I got totally lost and could not figure out how to get back to my first blog. Then I found it! I tried to edit it because I was not finished and did not succeed. Geez!
Thus, the title of my autobiography...keep on trying! I have had many setbacks in my life thus far due to health problems but somehow I feel that the health problems and finding my purpose in life are interconnected. I seem to have a problem getting out of my head and into my soul.
I cannot stop trying and I am very excited about my first successful blog post.

Writing 001

I have written a book, the great American novel no less. It is 700,000th on Kindle's list of popular books. Popular? I am competing with three quarters of a million new E-entries to Kindle in the past three months alone. I am deeply depressed. But, wait, I could initiate my own blog and drive thousands of hungry readers to my site - not necessarily for riches, but for some return on the two years I have spent in research, composition and editing not to mention the time I spent culling through the rejections from literary agents. Please discuss!

TRAVEL

My hobby is to travel. I don't get to do much of it but my goals for the future involve traveling, and being paid to do so.

I have had the passion to travel since I was a young child. My family would travel anywhere from 1-4 times a year to visit family. It was always to the same location yet I was yearning to travel further and to new places.

I am not sure where my travel inclination emanates from; possibly from seeking freedom from the every day.

Green New

I am a 'green' blogger. I have wanted to blog for a long time but did not know how. I am excited to get a feel for blogging, and then afraid I will become addicted. Blogging reminds me of all the writing I did growing up. I would love to start a daily blog coming from ideas given to me by subscribers. Is that still considered blogging? I am looking forward to learning how to become a great blogger.

Worth Trying Again

I have tried blogging before but not for the masses to see. I usually limit viewing to family and friends. But I have realized that I need to step outside of my comfort zone and learn how to appeal to others. I love sharing information or life experiences with a sense of humor. So I am looking forward to learning what I need to do, to turn this around.

New to Blogging

Here goes my first blog post!
I'm an avid reader of all kinds of blogs, and have decided that I want to start a blog of my own!
Hopefully this Introduction to Blogging online course will help. It seems pretty straightforward so far...let's see how this looks! :)

My favorite hobby right now is beading.

I've been beading for a little over 2 years.

I like it because it enables me to support a small orphanage in Asia with all the profits, as well as support women-at-risk with the purchase of Free Trade Beads

Did you know that over 27 million men, women and children in our world today live in slavery?
This is the message I want to get out: be aware . . . begin to care.

What I Know About Blogging Would Scare You!

I've been familiar with blogging for quite some time. Initially I had no idea what it was or where the term came from. Well, I understand more about blogging - but not much. At least now I know what a blog is and what you can use a blog for, such as keeping your family updated on what is going on in your life, what your opinion is on various topics, and teach people how to do things. But... from that point forward I don't know where to begin. I have gotten so far as to set up a blog account but I just don't know where to begin. I've been searching for "how to" information for picking a cause or a topic that will interest people but I really don't know where to start. I've never written anything before - well other than reports and papers in school, and some advertising pieces. Which by the way is the reason I need to learn effective blogging - to promote my new busines - Janellen Gifts in a Basket. I want to use blogging for an additional source to drive people to my website. So here I am on my journey to understanding good blogging and how to make it work for me.

Fast Food - A Toss of the Dice

Almost everyone loves fast food occasionally. Some eat it daily, some weekly, and some publicly scorn it, but secretly crave it. The key to great fast food is not necessarily the brand name or big neon sign promising a great meal at a great price, but the people that work there. Whether it be college kids, senior citizens, or high school dropouts, it is the pride they have in the job that makes the better burger. Clean counters and drink machine areas say alot about an establishment. An employee that greats you with a smile and knows how to operate the cash register is another plus. If your meal arrives quickly with a fully cooked burger and the fries are crisp, you feel better already. This is a direct result of someone actually caring about the food they sell. Many of us have all been through the meal from hell which involves limp fries, receiving the wrong order, a "to go" order with no ketchup and no napkins, or heaven forbid, a hair in the burger. An experience like this will cause you to think twice about fast food next time the craving attacks. Bad experiences often teach us more than good ones.

Communication at work

We have a problem with a lack of communication at work. I want us to set up a blog to make it easy for coworkers to tell others what they are working on, what problems they have come across, and ideas they would like to discuss about how to improve our service. Managemnet likes the idea and has said,"Go ahead." The problem is that I am 'technologically challenged.'

Blogging and Me: An Unfulfilled Relationship

Hi, I'm Molly.

While I have plenty of theoretical knowledge about blogs and blogging--and more familiarity than most with using HTML--thus far I've barely put these skills to any use.

I had a LiveJournal account for a number of years, and while over two years ago I crossed over into the more marketable and now more popular land of Wordpress, I've struggled with ridding myself of the more diaristic bent that LJ encouraged. Essentially, I haven't yet found my blogging "niche"--I haven't even given it the old college try. I'm a strong writer, but I don't want my prowess to be used for self-aggrandizement. I only want to write for myself in the sense that my blog might engage others in some way, and therefore I'd better enjoy and take greater pride in writing my entries.

My free time is spent on the back of a motorcycle

Motorcycle riding with my husband is my favorite free time activity when the weather is nice.

We have been been enjoying motorcycle riding for the past 3.5 years and have had numerous different bikes as my husband likes to buy and sell them as well.

We currently have 4 bikes - a BMW 1150 RT - A Kawasaki 1600 - A Honda Special Edition CBR and a Suzuki that he is transforming into a Cafe racer.

All about me

I am your typical nut in search of their shell. Looking high and low but thus far in life I have not been able to locate that item. I will continue my search along this journey until my journey ends. Happy trails!

An Exciting Experience

I'm extremely excited to learn how to start blogging more professionally. I grew up in a small town and there weren't a lot of resources about other places around the world, except the library. I love how the internet has blossomed into a highway of information for anyone with even the lowest connection. I've been writing since high school to include; short stories, poetry, observations, autobiographical stories as well as consumer comments on products.

Blogging became an important part of my life when I married a soldier and started moving around the country. It was a great way for my family back home to keep up with what was going on in my life as well as see pictures of the places I was visiting and how my kids looked from day to day. Personal blogging became a part of my life and I saw how exciting it was to share new information as it was happening. This peaked my interest for professional blogging. I have so many topics that I'm passionate about. I even noticed while searching, that some of them don't have a lot of information available. I see blogging as a way to help those out there with similar interests.

What I Do in My Spare Time

I am a raging bibliophile, so when I'm not reading books, I'm shopping for them, researching them, or buying them. It's a fairly safe addiction; I don't actually spend too much money on books, because more often than not I buy them used. But I have so many books at this point I'm running out of places to put them.

I cannot imagine a life without books. Even rooms without bookcases or tables for books look bare and empty to me. When you love reading, you can never be bored.

the nice guys guide

New mom!

I am a new mom and I want to start a blog about pregnancy, childbirth and being a new mom. I am looking to get the right tools to enter into the blogosphere and start writing.
Thanks.

Travel Blogging

Hi there

I am a photography producer and I get to produce assignments in many different places, around the world. I also take photographs of all the places I go to. I'd like to share these, along with stories from the road, with other people. I'd also like to use the blog to finesse my writing skills...the more I practice, hopefully the better I will get. That's the theory, at least :)

Fantasy Fiction in Reality

Reading Fantasy based fiction novels is not only my favorite pastime, but it has also become some what of a guilty pleasure. I can admit to have been indulging in immersing my mind with legendary epics and in otherworldly realities for as long as possible whenever I possibly can during my day and even stealing from potential and much needed sleep for the better part of the past three years.

In true Escapist form, I so easily ebrace new realities by reading fantasy fiction in order to allow all of Life's turmoil to briefly disapear with the turning of each page. I am looking forward to beginning my next adventure in the powerful world of reading fantasy books soon.

Single Moms

Today I want to encourage single parents that are trying to transition during these economic hardship

Intoducing Me; the newb and soon to be world famous blogger! LOL!

Finally. I've crossed over to the new media form of blogging. Maybe it is not so new, but my experience in Blogsphere is currently non existant however personally long awaited. I am here finally and ready to make my opinions known to the faceless online masses.
My recent decision to begin taking my own writing seriously has prompted an interest in understanding and mastering the art of blogging. At a family birthday party, upon hearing of my recent unemployment and interest in pursing my writing career, I was casually offered a job to write a blog for a clothing company's website. While this positon may or may not have been legitamate, it did promt me to see the potential career opportunity. Also, learning to blog seems like a logical step to take on the way to literary notoriety. How can I call myself a writer without one? In the least, I plan to use my own blog as a platform to excersise my writing skills and join the ranks of people who feel like their opinions are important.
Overall, I can no longer ignore the unique challenge of becoming a sucessful blogger that I am faced with. For someone like myself who has absolutely no interest in as well as no time or energy to devote to reading about others peoples opinions, how will I convince scores of surfers to take any interest in my own? Hmmm.

The start of a new project - my first Blog

Hi

This is the first blog of my life, it has taken me almost 50 years to get to this stage - although blogging was not even thought of all those years ago and computers were not widely available either. I am currently starting a course on blogging to bring me up to speed.

Although I have been an engineer all my working life and have good computer experience this is something out of the ordinary for me so I am looking forward to the experience.

Where to next

Currently I have a blog that is very neglected. What started out as a mere update for friends & family on our new abode has turned into "What to share next?" Beginning to think this little blog of ours needs some children, topic tabs. Then there would be more things to rattle on about & share with. I do enjoy writing my posts & don't frankly care the amount of readers I have. Still,,, not wanting to bore those few readers with wandering rants in my mind. Ho hum.. Ho hum...

Advice 5 cents

Decisions, decisions. We all make 'em. Sometimes the results are good, sometimes, well, they aren't. Then what? Regret? Remorse? Shame? A fifth of vodka?
Maybe I'm a perpetual optimist, but I just have to think that when you blow it, you haven't failed if you learned something. That's what my blog will be about - what I learned from my colossally stupid decisions. Maybe the only person who ever reads it will be me & that naggy friend of mine who keeps telling me that I should write a book. Hopefully not my mom, major embarrassment potential there. But if it is good therapy, then, hey! Free psychoanalysis! LOL

Disablem but not dead ...

I am excited to learn about blogging! I am disabled from the Agent Orange spraying during the Vietnam War. I am quite thrilled to write about my life experiences.

The World Of Blogging, To Blog or Not To Blog

I'm not a complete newbie to blogging, however I still have much to learn. I have fallen in love with blogging not because of it's fast pace social network feel. But because it's a good way to communicate with the world, not only about what your feelings, thoughts or even important information. I have realized that there is all ways a reader or a blogger that has the same views as you may have. I find it fascinating, I have want to give a little of myself, while giving great reviews about the things I love. But the question is To Blog or Not To Blog? I say blog.

Clueless

After paying a psychic 60 dollars to tell me what I'm suppose to do with my life, she told me I needed to blog, which would eventually lead to writing. As I wait anxiously to see if this psychic can really predict my future, I'll tell a little bit about my knowledge of blogging: clueless.

I prefer the bare minimum type of technology. I still use a flip phone, prefer talking to texting, refused to get an account on Facebook until my friends threatened that I would never see another picture of their cute cuddly babies, and I know nothing about blogging.

But why not give it a try. What I have to say has to be interesting to someone, right?

My First Blog Post

The way we communicate today is certainly very different from 4 or 6 years ago! I have always being fascinated about the way we communicate our message using technologies like social media and blogs. I have never blogged. I do follow really good blogs about beauty and fashion which ate areas that I am very passionate about. I decided I can start my own. I am excited to share my ideas with people that might have common interests. I am very happy to learn how to blog and being a blogger. I look forward to sharing my stories and learning from other people's comments.

Loving and using the Internet

I read a daily blog that is posted by someone in my community. While it has a lot of his personal slants in it, it is also an excellent community resource. He keeps everyone up to date with all the comings and goings in the "hood".

Other than reading that blog, I have no other blogging experience.

I love using the internet to "research" anything and everything and have a lot of good ideas that I would like to share with others.

My First Time Blogging

I never blogged before but always wanted to. All i know about blogging is that you get to talk about whatever you want. For example your kids, jobs, food,tv,people, etc.
I think this is a cool way to express your feelings and having fun.I think everyone should have a blog because this helps you do something , instead of nothing.

Gals Going Gaga for Gizmos, Gimmicks and Gadgets

Hi, I'm Susanne, and together with my friend Karen we're about to venture into the world of blogging. We both love gadgets (not necessarily the electronic ones) and gizmos and the occasional gimmick. So we thought 'why not develop our pastime into a fun hobby that we could share with others'. We've identified a number of our favorite items and will be blogging about them. Our intent is to raise awareness for those items, but also to get feedback and other items that people want to share with us.

The Light Shall Set Free

Universal Laws

The Universal Laws can also be viewed as guidelines for behaviors that will enhance our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth. Our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions are all forms of energy. What we think, feel, say, and do in each moment comes back to us to create our realities. There are 12 Universal Laws, and 21 sub-laws, that describe ways in which cause and effect are related.

There are several different versions of these Universal Laws. "Contrary to majority belief... Universal Laws are not based on theory or speculation. What at one point was believed to be only theoretical, mystical, or spiritual in nature and understood only by those who learned to tap into the place from where "Higher Truth" comes, has now emerged and become evident in the latest scientific discoveries and is now being measured on a physical level"

What is important is that you understand that they do exist and should you choose to align and harmonize with them in a conscious and intentional way, you'll in essence flow with and learn to be grateful even, for each event, condition and circumstance you encounter as the various aspects of your life unfold.

Stepping into the Limelight

To start off I have absolutely no experience writing a blog. I do however know how to make my way through a blog. I honestly can't remember how I starting reading into blogs, but once I did, there was no turning back. I did not know that there was literally a blog for just about anything on any topic, wow! I have a soft spot for Mommy blogger's, especially the one that do reviews and giveaways. Little did I know that these blogs could be so darn funny and interesting to follow. These blogs each have like 3 or more ways to follow their blog. I know the most common way to follow is through Google Friend Connect, at least that's what I think, don't hold me to it by any means. Another way to follow would be through Networked Blogs, I believe this is found through Facebook, but don't hold me to that either. Twitter is often a way to follow, but if you don't know what your doing, it could be quite confusing. I find that most Mommy bloggers are SAHM's(which means - Stay at home Mom). I'm going to sign off for now, take care. Rebecca

Generating Traffic

I have started and aborted several blogs. My main frustration is not knowing how to generate traffic, not knowing what exactly technorati is, and not understanding RSS feeds well. Not to mention how one creates a pleasing design. I hope to gain some insight here.

I Go By Dennis

My name is Richard. I go by Dennis which is my middle name. My cruel parents chose to call me by my middle name so that all of my life I would have to interrupt my new teachers to say, "Richard's my first name, but I go by Dennis." We did the same thing to my son. Anyway, I have been blogging sporadically for a year or so and I want to take it more seriously now. I love to write and if possible, I would like to discover an avenue to generate income from my writing. That's why I am taking this course now; to learn as much as I can about blogging and the opportunities with it.

My first bog

Hi there, New blogger here, I spent the majority of my my life not needing to deal with computers, but there's no escaping the technical evolution. I wound up having to about fifteen years ago in my trade. I'll have to admit it made my life easier. I could stay more informed about the products and services I provided. I was able to keep in contact with more clients and vendors. I was able to do more in less time. I read blogs all the time and I have even quoted, copied and pasted, but I have never written a blog until now, unless you count commits on social sites.
Sincerely, New blogger.

SAHM looking to start some extra revenue.

Hey! Is it weird that when I'm reading a blog and people don't start with a hello, it kind of throws me off balance. I mean, aren't most blogs meant to be written as if you were talking to someone, or many someones if your lucky? anyways, I had a blog...many moons ago. Okay, not really many moons ago, I'm only 22...but awhile ago. When live journal was around and I thought there was no one in the world that understood what I was going through, except people that lived millions of miles away from me, that i would never meet in real life :) Ohh, things were so easy then! Anyways, I'm a 22 year old SAHM (stay at home mom) I have a 2 year old amazing little boy who is the light of my world. I am pregnant due with number 2 in December and plan to be clinically insane by January 1st! just kidding!, sort of. I am married to an amazing man, who just so happens to be my hero :) He is in the United States Army 11 Bravo (& yes thats what he CHOSE not what he was "stuck" with) He is set to deploy in September and I am pretty sure the next year is going to be the hardest year of my life. It's going to be hard being a single parent again and it's going to be especially hard having my best friend gone not to mention in such a scary place. I am hoping a blog, along with a naughty two year old and soon a happy newborn will keep my busy enough to stay sane until my husband returns. I am also hoping to earn some free stuff :D Host giveaways, pass on some reviews, you know the normal bloggy stuff :D :D

Born-again Blogger

Greetings!

This is not my first blog post, but it is my first as a blogging student - hence my "born-again" status ;) I first began blogging almost a decade ago on a friend's blog. I was the only female posting on the site full of monkey men. It was a lot of fun. As time went on, my posts got better and better and they attracted more viewings and more comments. I was even pretty controversial. My head swelled and I thought, "I should have my own blog, people are chomping at the bit to read what I have to say." So, I started the first of two blogs. Both failed miserably. My first didn't attract one reader not even a spammed comment. In the second, I essentially strong-armed some friends and family to become followers and although they complied, only a couple actually read a post and commented out of sheer pity. It was very discouraging. I tried to go back to my friend's blog but I'd evolved as a person since posting on that site so its contents didn't hold the same interest to me and I didn't have the same appeal. I believed my blogging days to be over.

That said, I haven't been able to get blogging out of my mind! I moonlighted, very briefly, as a ghost-blogger but it felt so horribly wrong I quickly resigned. No, if I was to blog it was going to be my own blog, on my terms, posting what interested me in my personality and style. Which got me thinking, surely there's something out there that'll help me to become a better, more successful blogger. And that brings us to now...

See you in the blogosphere!

New to this

I am a very opinionated individual who used to write a lot when I was young. Due to work and life creeping up on me I got away from writing regularly. Recently I find myself unemployed and doing a lot of research on the Internet regarding career choices. I find myself in the fortunate situation of being able to change my career path and so I have been searching different articles on news media sights to find a way to get my opinions out there and write more in a forum I am currently unfamiliar with. I do not use any social media sights because I have never been a fan of sharing idle information pertaining to what you had for dinner or what you will wear to work tomorrow. That being said and life being what it is (ironic) I find myself very interested in what some people have to say. I have found that there are an abundance of intelligent people out there, the trick it seems is finding and communicating with them in this world of on-line social media, never really knowing anyone, pour your heart out anonymously writers forum.

I consider myself a fairly smart individual. I will no longer allow myself to sit passively by while the rest of the world rushes by on the technology highway. Watch out world I'm getting on board!

Blogging??? Me???? Really?????!!!!!!

Well, so my experience with blogging has been with FB and various communities I belong to on the web. However, I have never taken any formal training to actually write blogs. When I found this course on one of my communities it sounded like a good idea to try so I signed up. And here I am doing my first assignment.

I look forward to the final outcome. Wish me luck!

Until then.

Exciting Journey for a New Blogger!

I'm moving from the dark ages into the light! I have never blogged before or even read blogs. I thought they were something like gossip columns which I do not read. With the continued surge of social media, it has now become foolish not to use blogging as a tool for strengthening my business. I am a "solopreneuer" and would love to draw in new clients while having people explore my website.
There is one thing for sure, I will never know it is possible unless I try!

Reasons to blog

I blog for many diffferent reasons. Sometimes, I blog for self-expression. I blog also as a way of keeping notes to myself. I blog also as a way of having materials to show to others. One "other: that I try to impress and affect with my blogging is Mr Larry Page and his friend Serge. Here are some materials that they should look at and consider in terms of its implications for different searches:

About me

Getting Started

Hello!

I am a young women interested in posting about my life on the web. It is that simple for me. I like most people my age started out with a messenger serves then Myspace then Facebook and this is just the next step in the progression of things. I decided that now is as good of time as ever. I am recently married and moved far way from home base. In still wanting to share thing with my friends and family back home but in a more personal way I came up with this as a better alternative to those social networking sites. I figured on it not being too difficult so diving in head first and getting things right the first time seemed to be a good idea. I learned very soon that when a site says simple and great for everyone they are most certainly not talking about someone who has little to no http knowledge. So, after purchasing a web server and theme for a site more than a month ago and having a empty web page to this day I came here for the knowledge I need to put me in the category that they speak of as everyone.

Ready or Not, Here I Blog

Hello Everyone;

My name is MaryAnn.

Blogging has fascinated me for a very long time. I did spend some time in the past, researching various online sources, about starting my own blog. I am aware that there are both paid and free versions of blog platforms. I also know that a blog can be used to connect to others with similar interests, or that it can be set up as a news source for professionals and businesses.

My biggest challenge was and still is, how to choose and present my blog content. It seems that I have developed "blog fright". I look forward to learning enough in this course, to help me "untie my tongue" so to speak, so that I can share my interests with other like-minded individuals.

Get to Know Me? I am Lara

Hi everyone. I am Lara and new to blogging. I'm pretty envious long time ago reading blogs that I feel I could hardly do. I feel the wanting to write but am apprehensive of critics, I fear imagining readers pouting their lips, silently telling themselves, what a dare! Hence, up to now wanting much more to give it a try had not been to yet. However, with this course, I really wouldn't want to frustrate myself, so am determined to do it and I will do it no matter what, to the extent of adhering to the wisdom that constant practice will in someway and someday will make it perfect.

Using herbs in unusual ways.
Since starting my veg and herb garden in 2007 it's been a challenge to use the herbs to maximum effect.

Creating a dish like the snackplatter pictured here, is exactly what my quest is about.

I love nasturtium leaves because not only is it a pretty addition to any garden it also acts as a natural antibiotic with it's high vitamin C contents. It has the added benefit that it draws insect attention away from more precious crops. But it is the nasturtium's talent in the kitchen that makes me a fan. In the platter pictured, I used nasturtium leaves instead of vine leaves to make traditional dolmades. The flowers, lovely as garnish, are edible as well. Next I'll be trying the seeds I pickled on pizza. Watch this post...

At last! An outlet for my thoughts.

My first encounter with blogging was when a columnist I admire made derisive comments about bloggers. It put me clean off the idea. Then I did a course in Magazine Journalism and had to do an assignment about blogging. I realized that it can be the most wonderful way to express thoughts and ideas. Both of which I have in abundance. So! What shall I blog about? My efforts to be green and live as a vegetarian in a consumerist and carnivorous society. That it is possible to garden without herbicides and pesticides. My love for animals and nature. (No lack of beautiful places in this wonderful country I live in.) The ongoing renovations to our house. I shall air my views about those things that delight me :) and the irritations, big and small, that is part and parcel to living. Above all, my blog will have a categorie devoted to practical recycling ideas. Not the "seperate- your-garbage" version of it, but the "buy-less-and-reinvent-what-you've-got" way of recycling. Can't wait to get it up and running!

Introducing .... Me!

I am James Pennington. I am a new blogger who has a deep interest in getting started with one. I started my own Social Networking/Blogging site. I really am having a hard time trying to write blogs because I feel my writing ability isn't the greatest as of yet. I know that over time I will keep improving. Just afraid of failure I guess. I want my blogs to be more professional. I have always had a niche for journalism. Just always was told that journalism isnt a solid career. So when I went to college I kind of swayed away from that dream.

So after 3 years of college and being miserable with major I was practically forced into going into I took some time off. I wanted to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Then I started reading blog after blog, listening to talk radio like crazy. Then it struck me. I love web design and I love the news. Why not do both.

I am kind of amazed I actually wrote this much. This is the farthest I have gotten without getting nervous and erasing everything. Any positive feedback on things I can improve on would be awesome. Thanks!

My Love of life-Long Learning with Books!

I really don’t have a hobby, but I am passionate about learning from books.

I’ve been an avid reader for the better part of forty years (read: pretty much my entire life)!!

Books are the quietest
and most constant of friends;
they are the most accessible
and wisest of counselors,
and the most patient of teachers.
~ Charles W. Eliot

I have used Elizabeth Foss's blog as a resource to books for our children. I love her teaching style and how she draws a wide variety of books together which focus on a theme.

In searching for blogs that focused on a love of books and reading, I found this beautiful blog which features books illustrations and art!

Here are images of a few of my current favorites:

From SEO to Blogging

For the last year or so, I have been writing SEO material for numerous, varied internet sites Recently however, due to different reasons, the revenue created from these sites has fallen through the floor. For some this is a major problem if not a catastrophe. For me it’s not a problem at all, but more of a decision maker. The money I earned was nothing to write home about and the process of writing and publishing an article was not particularly fulfilling. I consider myself to be somewhat opinionated and this is not really the acceptable style of writing for the sites I was contributing to.

The more I think about it, the more I get the impression that blogging is the ideal outlet for the way I like to write. To make an opinion on a topic and to receive relevant and informed feedback inspires me more than just writing and forgetting soon after.

I have dabbled blindly in the Blogosphere, but have realised that if you want to do something, you should really go about it in the correct manner and receive the appropriate training. Hence, that is why I am here.

Why I want to blog

I like writing creative non-fiction. It gives me a chance to reflect on my life and put things into perspective, while maybe even touching someone else who reads it. Blogging is an opportunity to do that two or three times a week, with writing built around a particular theme, and in a medium that may even build my credentials as a writer should others get to know my blog, like it, and recommend it to others.

I am hoping the Blogging 101 course will teach me the fundamentals as well as the more sophisticated points of blogging so that I can launch into the blogosphere well-prepared with professional training. That way, the learning curve won't be as great, painful, or arduous.

I am also hoping that the course will help move me nearer to my goal of being a social media writing consultant for NGOs or non-profits whose work I may be interested in. Right now, I work as an editor, editing research papers about 20 to 30 hours a week for a major company. Writing for social media seems a wonderful outlet for my creative writing skills, after spending many hours each week improving other people's writing.

So, yes, that is why I want to blog. It's a chance to express myself as a writer, perhaps grow my reputation, and even gain me a new profession in the world of media and publishing.

I Can't Believe I'm Really Blogging!

To date, I am technologically savvy enough to survive in this world. I have a computer (duh), digital camera, smart phone, mp3 player, e-reader, and other such devices. I do basic tasks on said devices such as search the web, bank online, pay bills, download music and books, send and respond to e-mails, etc. In truth, these devices are wasted on me - they are totally underutilized.

One case in point: I've never tweeted nor have I ever logged onto facebook (much less created a profile.) I have tons of excuses. I've been skeptical (even critical) of those who seem to spend so much time on such things. I claim I don't have the time when in fact I have plenty. I claim my identity might be at risk though pity the fool who would might steal it. I claim we are too reliant on technology but deep inside I understand it's better to get on the bus than get run over by it. So here I am - on the brink of venturing way out of my comfort zone.

I've never considered myself narcissistic and am amazed to think anything I might have to share will be of help or interest to anyone. Everything I've heard about blogging says you must have a quite specific topic and regard it with relative passion. This alone has delayed my first attempt at blogging. You see, as it turns out I'm a trained generalist. No, really, I am. I have a bachelor of science in Family and Consumer Science (aka Home Economics for folks of my generation.) This includes general training in foods, nutrition, health, wellness, parenting, human development, personal finance, consumerism, clothing, textiles, housing, interior design, relationships, etc. Of course, I have my fortes and these will become evident over time.

With that said, be patient as I learn - as I learn more about my subjects, as I learn more about myself and as I learn about you.

Something about me

I am just beginning to learn how to blog, I have a blog set up but want to learn the in's and out's of the behind the scenes. I feel like I would have something to contribute, on facebook I was amazed at the interests people had with the different things I had been doing, I always told myself I would never blog and here I am. Never say never!

Blogging: It's ALL about me!

Blogging has been a secret aspiration of mine for some time. I confess to having started a couple blogs over the years with the idea to share my experience of working in network marketing. Although this is one of the priorities in life (read: source of income for our family), my passions are my faith and family and I just wasn't inspired to invest time and energy into THAT blog!

Part of my desire to blog was my love for words. I love to read. I love to journal. I love to play with words by writing. Writing helps me to clarify my thoughts. Writing provides a means to process life's challenges and document successes. I know the practice of writing assists me in the being a better verbal communicator.

One of my resolutions for 2011 was to make time for my desire to write...and to be part of the HUGE online community of bloggers. Over the past year I've found dozens of amazing mothers with whom I have so much to share. These women inspire me in living my vocation as a wife, mother and homemaker. I want to engage in that community with my own blog.

I have been working on a blog at Typepad called Moments of Grace since late December. 'MyBlog’ is my space to write about my journey living my faith as a wife mother (of 5) and home-maker. I am on a HUGE learning curve but I am LOVING it so far! (Other than the downside of the amount of time it takes me to actually create and publish a post...yikes!)

Some topics I want to blog about: my walk with Christ as a Catholic, marriage, mothering, books, living with gratitude, living well with fibromyalgia, clean eating, and getting out of debt.

At this point I am excited about this Blogging Pre-Course. I plan to enroll in the Blogging 101 course and possibly take some advanced level blogging courses. I am also exploring options to enroll in some online writing courses.

Here I Am!

Hello my name is Yaisa Hagood and I have no previous blogging experience. I've known about blogs for several years and I've always had a passion for writing. Therefore, I decided that I would educate myself on blogs so that I can start my own.

Saturday, March 5, 2011

Introduction

I am a "newblogger." Though I've been blogging for several years, I seem to have lost my motivation to write and network with other bloggers...

I have a small blogging niche as a veteran homeschooling mother with a special interest in homeschooling children with special needs. I have two real life special ministries involving including people with special needs in faith communities and supporting others who homeschool children with special needs.

As a stay-at-home mom, my other passions in life include my Lord & Savior, my family, reading and cooking.

I am extremely introverted so blogging has been a nice outlet to express myself. I have never considered myself to be a writer. I find that I work very hard, perhaps too hard, to find just the right words to express what I mean to convey.

I have many written works on the internet. They are informational pieces about homeschooling children with special needs. I have also written an e-book with the same subject.

Now, I need to learn how to be a good blogger!

To blog or not to blog...

...that is the question with which I am currently grappling. I was first introduced to the seemingly endless fountain of information and virtual connections found through blogging by my mother. Yes, I admit, it's a little sad that my mom beat me to the punch in discovering this, but hey - at least I got the satisfaction of knowing how to utilize RSS feeds before her! Anyway, as I started to notice the theme of the types of blogs I was subscribing to and the fact that many of them were interlinked with each other - I started wondering what my own voice could contribute to the conversation. The blogs I follow are authored by women who share one or more of the following attributes: they love God wholeheartedly, they are passionate about their families, they have an obsession with organization and any kind of storage solution, beauty is not lost on their finely-tuned senses - they find it in everyday living, and most importantly, they desperately desire to have their writings touch and impact other women in a way that glorifies God and builds up the body of Christ. Several weeks ago, I stumbled across a website for a blogging conference called, The Relevant Conference. I could hardly contain myself when I learned that these women gather each year for encouragement, fellowship, technical training, and networking! I immediately wanted to sign up to join - but, then this one tiny issue came rushing to the surface...ready for it? Yeah, I don't blog. I'm a closet-blogger - that is, I have a blog (two, actually), but it's not public and I think I have 1.5 posts. Hmmm - that could be a problem. So, here I am - investigating the next steps, deciphering if I have anything different or beneficial to add to the conversation, and figuring out the best way to move forward.

New Blogger Gets Feet Wet

Hi, I'm determined to learn how to blog, create a fantastic blog with the content being visual prayer. I've been painting for 10 years, am self taught and have been in some galleries. My passion is for painting prayer in color and texture to give homage to our Creator. Watch for my eye appealing blog very soon.

Unorganized Blogger

Today is a day to learn how to blog for the real.

I have had an online journal since the age of 15, so about 12 years now I have been some what blogging. My online journal was more less private, with only selected viewers to read what I publish. I would love to get into blogging, however I am inconsistent with it. Perhaps, due to lack of knowledge. My goal for this year is to get a steady blog rolling. I would like to include numerous subjects in my blog. Such as, daily happenings, tutorials, art, photography, etc.

Perhaps you will see my blogs soon!

Ciao!
Hard to choose my favourite hobby - between photography and reading/writing.

Bookworm me has been reading from about 7 years.....

In a blog with no home

Have blog don't have stats....The few who do read my blog comment that they enjoy them and love my writing. But what's the use of a blog if not to share it with more than 3 people a month.
On the weekend I read a magazine article about Blogging for money, and one lady stated she did a course..... So seeing as I have blog, no stats and no salary, I decided that best I launch myself into a course. That is while I still have the home and the computer and the cats.

latebloomer...

That's me, I'm a latebloomer! I finally thought I should learn about blogging. So I have signed up to take a blogging course. I've been looking forward to starting this course.

I'd like to create a blog for our family and friends. A place where we can hang out and share things across the miles we are apart. Keep up with each other! Not miss all the birthdays, weddings, showers, holidays and whatever any of us wish to share. I'd like it to be a place where the younger generation will be able to see us old folks too, you know grandparents!

I'm also interested in creating a blog for seniors. I'd like to make it a fun place to come and visit. Younger folks would be welcome to visit too! It's all in good fun and getting to know new people. I'm very excited to get further into the course so that I can get started on the family blog.

I'll also look forward to reading all the other postings from my fellow classmates...
