Some things about me...

Hi! This is my first step towards the land of blog. I have been toying with the idea for quite some time now, but sit frozen in front of my computer when I decide to start. This time though I'm pushing myself to conquer my fear, basically of ridicule. It is, after all, out there for the whole world to see. If it works, its great. If it doesn't it must feel like going outside sans underwear.
For starters, I can say that I am happily married and the mother of two teenagers. I live in South America. I work at a school and in my free time, is there such a thing as free time for a working mom?, I love to read, cook and surf the Internet.
OK, that's it! I am about to publish my first tiny blog post. 1, 2, 3...Jump!

Chill Time

My favorite hobby is chatroom fellowship.

I have enjoyed this hobby for approximately 3 years now.

I really enjoy the time I chat mainly because I have met a group of people that I can relate life experiences with through humor and seriousness with mutual respect.

Double Vision: The Joys of Photography

For over thirty years I have been passionate about photography.

From my first film camera to my first point-and-shoot, and now my professional grade EOS digital cameras, I see things first with my eyes and then through the lens.

While my eyes find something about a subject that draws me in, when the camera lens separates my eyes from the subject, another dimension is added. It is always great fun for me to see how my right brain interprets what lies before me. I never quite know until the images have been captured in digital form.

The tag line for my business has long been 'Embracing the Varied Beauty of Life'; and yet there are two distinct views of what I see and how I capture it. Any photographer will likely tell you the same thing.

However, for me, it is one of the pure joys of photography. Allowing my intuitive and creative self interpret what my physical being is able to absorb in totally new and exciting ways.

Get out there with your camera, no matter how simple or sophisticated - and let your two worlds collide in images that reflect more than you know you are at that moment. Happy shooting!

A Raw Deal

On any given day, over the past twenty-five plus years, I have craved chocolate in some form. Nothing unusual for me. I'll take it as I can get it. However, I am gradually shifting toward a raw food diet and have found the raw treats I make even better than the old sugary confections of years past. Who woulda thunk?

With fresh, raw almonds, raw cocoa, and organic dates, the beginnings of a delectable treat begin; and oh so simply. I merely toss all into my food processor (which has been working out more than me lately), reach in with my hands, and press it into a tight crust with my palm into a shallow bowl or pie plate.

Next up - fresh fruit. I typically take a banana and whatever fresh fruits I have in the house; often blueberries or strawberries. I reserve some of the berries, and once, again, all go into my trusty food processor (I don't bother to rinse out the crust, as what little bit remains, adds a tiny dash of texture to the soon-to-be pie.) Once mixed, I gently stir in chopped or whole berries, depending on their size) into the mix and pour it over the crust.

After as little as an hour in the fridge - sometimes it does not even make it to the fridge - it is ready to eat. With a soothing cup of green tea, it is a little taste of heaven. And all during the process, other than a bit of raw cocoa, I've not thought about, nor missed, my usual chocolate at all.

If you're thinking of switching to a raw - or mostly raw - diet, starting with an occasional dessert of fresh fruits and nuts can be an encouraging, delicious, and healthy way to start! Bon appetite!
