My First Post

Hello to all newbie bloggers.
I have had two, what I consider strange occurances already as a newbie!! First, when I took my quiz, I passed with 100%! I swear I don't know a thing about blogging. I wasn't quite sure what to do as the instructions said something about jumping to the link in the upper right hand corner. Not wanting to miss any training however, I watched the You-Tube Video and now I continued to where I am now. I certainally have read quite a lot about blogging trying to determine how serious I am about beginning a blog. This however didn't explain why I scored so high on the quiz. More about that later.
Second, as I was logging in so I could post this I was notified that, surprise, there was a problem verifying my password, you know, the one given to me by this course. I was to enter my cell phone number so the password could be changed. Now I have a differant password than was given to me and by some miricle I was lucky enough to pass the first quiz with flying colors. Quite a beginning if you ask me.
As far as my blogging future, I determined to take this free pre blogger class and then take the blogging 101 class to begin my blogging experiance. I generally have a difficult time beginning things and not finishing them. After much consideration, I have decided to take both classes and after that I have set a goal for myself to have a blog up and running within two months after completeing these classes. Also included in my goals is to post no less than twice a week and more aggressive as this blog grows.
My problems as I look forward are running out of interesting things to post as well as how to generate money from my blog. I do understand a bit about adsense as I tried network affiliation in the past. That didn't work out as I realized that alot of affiliates use landing pages to make sure that they get credit for the sale of a particuliar product and to be sure they collect their commision. Google was extreemly unhappy about this and they made it difficult for affiliate marketers to operate under those conditions. That is when I decided to begin a blog. Not only could I discuss things that were important to me but also work adsense, and other marketing materials into my blog without the wrath of Google being involved. As it turns out, as long as you are providing a service and not just a landing page, they don't mind a bit.
So, good luck to all of you other newbie bloggers, maybe we can come up with a solution for the world economy but that is another post. In fact there are probably at least 3 subjects to write about in this post. Good luck to all who are serious about blogging.

Newbie Blogger

Hello Bloggers, I am a New Blogger. I am excited about this opportunity to learn from each of you as well as share what I know. I enjoy adventure. Let the adventures begin! First, Do you believe that the guys that host the show Ghost Adventure are for real? I want to believe them but part of me has my doubt. What do you think?

Intro from a newbie blogger

Quite a few years ago, I really loved writing long letters to my friends and family. Many of them suggested that I should write a book about myself or actually anything. I had numerous hard events happen in my life and people engaged more in emailing then writing. As I got used to the email routine, my writing fell down the way side. Maybe I would have enjoyed a letter or two myself for me to continue:)

What hinders me as well in blogging, is the skill to think while typing on the computer. My hands and thoughts were used to a pencil and paper. Totally different then on a computer. Mistakes seemed to be made more and I had the tendency to keep re-reading what I had written. Hence loosing my train of thought more so then on paper. At the same time I did not want to waste time re-writing all again.

Through time, my skills diminished. But now I would enjoy returning to writing for my pleasure and even make some money. This course will surely bring me to this level.

. . . now I am one.

Hello, I'm an aspiring writer of fiction trying to promote myself by blogging. I have grandchildren who help me with the television remote, so I have no idea what I'm doing here. It's very intimidating but once-upon-a-long-time-ago I was afraid to ride my bike without the training wheels - so I guess this fear, too, will pass!

I'm excited about promoting an article I've written by blogging about it. I've got some great ideas, and I can still write fiction and keep up my non-fiction skills by blogging.

This course (so far - I just started) has helped me to take the plunge into blogging, with its friendly instructions and now I'm sure I can learn it.

I never really knew even how to spell "blogger" or what the definition was - but pretty soon, I'll be one!

Plan to blog my way out of the bog

Hello everyone, I'm a writer who has been bogged down trying to do things the traditional, old fashioned way but events have conspired recently to point me in a new direction. So far, I've been content to be a journalist and business-writer because doing those things brought in a steady paycheque. I've been reluctant to take the risks involved in novel writing, but that's really what I want to do. In my home office, I have a little plaque that contains the George Eliot quote, "It's never too late to be what you might have been." Last week I was dusting and it fell off a shelf and hit me on the head. Then yesterday, afternoon, I received an emailed 'message of the day' it was also George Eliot's quote. Last night my cousin called and told me about John Locke and his book, "How I sold one million e-books in five months." I did a little research and found out that blogging played a huge role in Locke's achievement -- that and being able to write decent books that people want to read. I know I can write decent books, so I'm going to dust off some old manuscripts, write some new ones, and learn about blogging so I can follow in Locke's footsteps -- Lockestep, you might say (never met a pun I didn't enjoy). Today is the first day of a new life for me, one where I will end up being who I should have been.

Learning for Work

I have always loved to write. However, I have not always loved for people to read what I write. Therefore, I'm taking this course to become more comfortable with writing about ideas I am okay sharing with people. I've travelled and lived on three different continents and attempted to create a blog to keep my family and friends posted on what I was doing. I found that I did not entirely like sharing everything with anyone. I now work in an office that requires me to often work on our social media. We're in the middle of enhancing our blog and making it a priority and I thought this would be a good way to go about preparing myself.

I have done some work on grant writing. For instance:

SCIENCE4US MISSION:
The US weakness in science education starts in the primary grades (NAEP, 2009). Science4Us (S4U) seeks to relaunch primary school education through an original, powerful, online curriculum that leverages three emerging phenomena:
  • technologically savvy learners are engaged in digital learning
  • school infrastructure is ready (human & technical) to integrate online curriculum
  • installation of computer based standardized science tests in elementary schools and revised learning frameworks are imminent
S4U is committed to implementing the most innovative, research based, educational practices to address the needs of 21st century learners and encourage STEM education. S4U believes in the research process and seeks to contribute to the knowledge base through original research... (something like that) S4U is developed and marketed by Time4Learning, a rapidly growing 30 person company with success creating and marketing innovative applications to US elementary schools.

Scope and Sequence
The mission of Science4Us is to teach fundamental science concepts to  students iwhen they are young and impressionable. The goal is not not just interest, not just competence but to create  a deep understanding and interest in science can be built.

Midwestern Apathy and the Rise of Blogging Interests

Hot cocoa and a three foot Christmas tree in my parents living room. Not exactly where I expected to enter the blogging universe a second time. Writing a blog is something that spoke to me from the first time I learned what it actually meant. Since the second grade I've dreamed of being an author of something, whether a non-fiction book, short story, poetry anthology, or sci-fi novel. Some form of authorship that would put me on the map as a talented individual with penchant for writing (if indeed it exists).

As a historian in training, writing is the measure productive output that argues for an interpretation of something in the past. Just like advertising convinces consumers about the quality of certain goods and services, historians produce compelling arguments to whoever will listen. Academic prose, however, is often stale and indigestible in great quantities. Eventually, I needed a creative outlet to write about things that had little to do with history.

One day I decided to start a blog, titling it "A Detestable Imposture," coined from a phrase in an eighteenth-century slaveholder's diary. Using Blogger I wrote about the seeming disinterest in national politics that many of my friends and colleagues in Ohio exhibited. How could they be so apathetic? Growing up outside Washington DC this all seemed so strange. I had to let the world know my disgust and possibly even get a crowd of people to follow me. It wouldn't be that hard. After all Micheal Brooks had a blog, so why couldn't I?

Of course I was not disciplined enough to keep up with posting. That was my first and only experience with blogging, back in 2009. Now in the new year of 2012 I've decided its time to revisit the concept of blogging. There is so much I want to say and it will certainly help improve my writing craft. I am in this for the long haul!

Learning About Blogging Too!

This is my second attempt to finish this pre-course. I have started a new blog using wordpress.org but there is so much more to it than I thought. While I enjoy it I still have A LOT to learn. So I am very excited to learn all I can and improve my blog. Good luck to everyone!
